The idea behind Internet Download Manager was very simple. A commercial download manager that can manage all of your download needs.
Even after 22 years, the popularity of IDM has only increased with tons of customizations, download settings, and UI additions. I’ve been using this software for almost 8 years now and it always felt like the most natural way to download anything from the internet.
So, let’s check out some basic features of this great tool and get started with the review!
Quick Overview
Here’s what you need to know before I start my long-term experience:
- IDM lets you download a file in multiple streams for a smoother download experience.
- It offers batch downloads and download scheduling.
- Great extension integration with popular web browsers.
- Customizable interface
My Hands-on Experience with IDM (A Long-time User’s Perspective!)
The download process of IDM is quite easy. You just have to download the installer and the whole download process can be wrapped up within minutes.
After that, you have to purchase the full version after the trial period expires as it’s a premium application. Insert your code and it’ll be registered. So, you won’t face any issues with the installation process.
User Interface
Coming to the UI, IDM boasts a simple navigation panel that can be customized a bit. You can set the download location, schedule your downloads, change the themes/icons, and much more!
If you have a lot of files listed for download, it’ll show up in the table and you can choose what you want to do with it. Let me be more straightforward, there are a lot of options that you can explore. However, I’ll keep the review simple so that you can only focus on what you’ll actually use.
Download Speeds
Obviously, you’ll want to use this software for your daily download purposes, right? Once the software is installed, you will immediately get an extension installed on your web browser. I use Google Chrome so it’s already installed.
Now, you just have to download something. Here, I pressed the download button for the latest version of BlueStacks from Fileion. You’ll get a quick download prompt where you can choose the download location, schedule, and rename the file.
You can even hide this prompt from the IDM settings if you want.
Here’s the download speed I got:
Not bad, right? Well, it can definitely be better but I can’t pause the download everywhere and check the download details. Even after I shut down the PC and want to resume the download, it’ll start from where it was left.
So, just like me, you’ll surely have a great time using IDM!
Additional Features
In addition to regular downloads, you can even download videos from all the popular streaming sites. Just press the small IDM icon popping up on the website. Choose the file type and it’s done!
It’s really great to have such a versatile application at your disposal. Other than some minor hiccups, I rarely faced any major issues with IDM so far.
Pros & Cons of IDM
What I like about IDM:
It suffices to say that I surely love IDM as I’ve been using it for more than 8 years now. The instant boost & stability to download speeds, pause/resume functionality, and YouTube download integration.
These are just some of the features that I use daily so there’s no denying the usability of IDM in my life. Moreover, it gets regular updates which adds some extra features to the whole system.
What I don’t like about IDM:
In some cases, the software can’t get the proper link which can be a hassle if you depend on IDM too much. Furthermore, the pause/resume button does not work for all files and servers. So, be careful about it!
Conclusion
If you ask for my recommendation, then I’ll surely recommend IDM to any close friend or family of mine. I’ve been using the software for a while now and I hardly find anything to complain about.
So, you can definitely try the software and let us know your thoughts!
